A Young Man Needs Counseling For His Extreme Depression, Relationship Issues, And For His Alcohol And Drug Dependency

Approximately three months ago I had dinner with a thirty-nine-year-old male named Benjamin who experiences intense depression, has relationship difficulties, and who is dependent on alcohol and drugs. As affirmed by Benjamin, it is his alcohol and drug addiction and his severe depression that has had the most to do with his unceasing relationship issues.

As declared by Benjamin, he is so dejected by his relationship difficulties and by both of his medical issues that he in essence has little or no energy to do much of anything. What is particularly unfortunate about this is that earlier in his life, Benjamin finished five semesters of graduate school in genetics.

Benjamin's circumstance makes me question if he is an illustration of a person who can look in the mirror and see his drug addiction and drinking problems and do something healthy about these difficulties. Or, on the other hand, if he is an individual who has to hit the bottom of the barrel before he gets drug and alcohol addiction counseling that leads to long-term sobriety.

It may be asked how counseling would help his alcohol and drug dependency. First of all, there are a number of recently discovered physician-prescribed medications that can help Benjamin through his withdrawal symptoms, through the drug and alcohol detoxification process, and help him avoid an alcohol or a drug relapse. Second, in therapy he could also learn more about his alcoholism symptoms and also about the different stages of alcoholism.

Third, Benjamin would learn to concede the fact that there is entirely nothing useful about drug addiction and careless and excessive drinking. In a similar way, he would also learn that involving himself in one or both of these unhealthy conditions is the route to shattered relationships, poor work and school performance, financial difficulties, deteriorating health, legal problems, and a premature death. Fourth, therapy for his relationship difficulties and his depression might help him manage these mental health problems more successfully and help create less of a need for him to involve himself in addictive behavior. And finally,in rehabilitation he could also learn more about the diverse symptoms of alcoholism that he has exhibited.

Because Benjamin doesn't have the grit to achieve much of anything in his life, it is plain to see that he urgently needs some hope for a better existence. And the sad thing is that hope is almost everywhere around Benjamin if he could only get to the place in life to get the therapy he requires for his intense depression and alcohol dependency and drug addiction and stick with his treatment protocol.

Benjamin is clearly too young to be overwhelmed in life. He doesn't realize this at this time in his life but if he can learn how to refrin from drugs and alcohol through alcohol and drug rehab and get the treatment he requires for his extreme depression, he can reorient his life and begin living with self-respect, direction, and passion.

Stronger relationships, constructive change, self esteem, and a wonderful life are clearly possibilities for Benjamin. But only if he can get inspired to seek the professional rehabilitation he requires, follow through with his therapy program, live his life in a sober and healthy manner, and learn how to cultivate a more positive attitude about his life.
